Fires.help

Fires.help is a mutual aid aggregation site that my friends and I came up with during the Los Angeles fires back in January. During wildfires, it's easy to feel powerless–that's why we wanted to help people contribute to their community, as well as get victims the resources they need. We helped almost 3000 affected citizens, and got interviewed in the Pasadena Weekly.

The Challenge

In early 2025, fires hit the city of Los Angeles. Friends had their homes and schools burnt down, many went without homes, and the city and it's schools didn't know what to do. There was a lot of need at that time for quick, reliable information–which is why we wanted to build this site.

The Result

The design of the site wasn't anything extraordinary, we built it quickly and for one purpose: to direct victims to the proper resources and information, and to help volunteers find opportunities to help and donate. The site included GoFundMe links, a Fire Watch map, A list of hundreds of victim-oriented resources (organized and sortable), and a form to be able to add a resource or GoFundMe to the site.

It was deeply rewarding to create something with tangible community impact, supporting nearly 3,000 victims and volunteers. Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing the site to extend its reach beyond the Los Angeles community.
